Police are investigating the theft of two air conditioning units from an upcoming Veterans center in Darlington.

Someone stole the units from the former Carriage House nursing home on Law Street. The building is being renovated for the Veterans Transitional Base.

Veterans coming home from the war who maybe wounded, in need of counseling, or who may need help getting readjusted to civilian life will be housed at the center.

Officials at the facility say the thefts are a setback and will prevent them from opening in October.

The center is affiliated with the Fatherhood Initiative.
