Horry County Police charged Robert Michael Barnes, 29, of Boardman, Ohio with Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Siren and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
Barnes is wanted in Ohio in connection with a robbery and kidnapping there. He also faces charges of armed robbery, robbery and kidnapping in Myrtle Beach.
North Myrtle Beach will charge him with grand larceny, receiving stolen goods, and first degree assault.
Barnes was captured Monday night, about nine hours after police first tried to stop him.
Around noon Monday, police stopped a 2011 Toyota Avalon for traveling at a high rate of speed on Robert Grissom Parkway near Myrtle Beach.
Police say the driver, later identified as Barnes, refused to stop, and a chase began on International Dr. Horry County Police say the chase was called off because the road was not safe. They saw the Avalon travel down International Dr. towards Hwy. 90. Officers continued looking on foot and found the Avalon on International Drive near the Ocean Bay Preserve.
At that point, police discovered the Avalon had been stolen in North Myrtle Beach during a carjacking. Horry County Police say Barnes was driving the car when he robbed a CVS Pharmacy on 38th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. Police say he stole prescription drugs. Police then learned the man's identity was Michael Barnes, wanted out of Ohio for robbery and kidnapping by the U.S. Marshal Service.
Officers and bloodhounds searched a perimeter area set up in the International Drive area. Around 6:00 p.m. the search concentrated in that area was called off. Horry County Police say the information about Barnes was given to the oncoming shift of officers.
Then around 9:00 p.m. Monday, officers were tipped off that Barnes might be in the area of the 4000 block of Hwy. 90 near Conway. He was arrested there without incident.
We're waiting to learn if Barnes will be extradited to Ohio.
