SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) -- About 100 airmen and nearly 20 fighter jets from South Carolina's Shaw Air Force Base are heading to Nevada for two weeks of training with counterparts from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

Air Force spokeswoman Airman 1st Class Alexandria Mosness says the men and women left Wednesday. The F-16s from the 77th Fighter Squadron are set to depart Friday.

Air Force officials say the exercise at Nellis Air Force Base, dubbed Red Flag, simulate warfare among air forces of several nations.

Pilots and ground crews must respond to simulated attacks from ground-based anti-aircraft weapon fire as well as attacks from other warplanes.

The Marines and Navy also take part.
