Thurmond picks up Campbell endorsement in SC

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) -- The son of a former South Carolina governor is endorsing the son of a former U.S. senator in a congressional race the state's coastal 1st District.

Paul Thurmond announced Wednesday that he's receiving the endorsement of Carroll Campbell III and plans to appear with Campbell on Thursday.

Thurmond is the son of the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond. Campbell is the son of the popular late Gov. Carroll Campbell.

Thurmond faces Tim Scott in a runoff in the 1st District in two weeks. Scott was the top vote-getter in a nine-way primary on Tuesday.

Thurmond finished in second place.

Campbell is among several other candidates endorsing Thurmond.

Scott has been endorsed by Katherine Jenerette of North Myrtle Beach.
