Highway Patrol has charged Timothy Fowler, 24, of Tabor City, NC with Felony DUI in connection with a deadly accident that happened just before 10:00 Thursday night.
Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Sonny Collins says Fowler was trying to pass a car on Highway 701 North just outside Loris, when he lost control and hit a car being driven by Robert C. Byerly, 56, of Loris.
Byerly died several hours later at Loris ER from injuries suffered in the accident.
Collins says Fowler was taken the hospital after the accident and was released Friday. He was then taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center, where he was booked on a Felony DUI charge.
