Homeowner who police say shot intruder speaks

April 29, 2010 12:25am

Horry County Police say a homeowner shot and killed an armed robber who was in his home Wednesday.

It happened around 1:15 p.m. on Wayside Road just outside of Conway.

Police say an intruder made his way inside the home, but was shot by the man inside.

The intruder was found dead about 30 yards from the home in some woods.

The homeowner told NewsChannel 15 he felt like it was either his life or the intruder's life.

James Gagum described what happened when he started shooting. "I went pow-pow (fired shots), and he ran. (He) was out the door, and I went running behind him, and I said pow-pow, and once I got to this entrance, I ran into another guy. I didn't know there was another guy. I just thought there was him. I ran into the second guy, and me and him scuffled and then there was a third guy."

Police say Gagum also fired shots at a getaway car and blew out the back window.

Police found that car shortly after the incident and have taken two men into custody.

No names have been released.
