Many South Carolina lawmakers have been outspoken about their feelings on the health care reform bill.

Tuesday, Senator Jim DeMint introduced legislation that our other senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, is co-sponsoring to repeal the bill.

In a press release DeMint said, "We must repeal this bill and start over. There are common sense solutions we can implement to expand health care freedom and choices, lower premiums, and increase quality. But this bill will force taxpayer funding of abortions, raise health costs, hike taxes, cut medicare, raid social security, and put bureaucrats between patients and their doctors."

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, who represents parts of the Pee Dee, praises the health care reform bill. The night it passed, he said, "I consider this to the Civil Rights Act of the 21st century because I do believe that this is the one fundamental right that this country had been wrestling with now for almost 100 years."

State Attorney General Henry McMaster, along with at least 12 other attorneys general, is suing the White House to stop the bill from becoming law.

The suit alleges the part of the bill that requires all Americans to buy health insurance is unconstitutional. He told NewsChannel 15's Tim McGinnis, "It's unconstitutional. It's a threat to our state sovereignty. It's a threat to the liberties of the people and that is why 14 of us attorneys general have filed this federal lawsuit in Florida."

McMaster says the only part of the health care reform bill the suit takes legal issue with is the requirement for everyone to buy health insurance. He says he wouldn't be surprised if the case makes it to the Supreme Court.
