Paving work on International Drive in Horry County will have to wait until an expert on bears completes his study of the road.

The expert hired by Horry County will come up with options for where to place bear crossings on the road. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources has to approve the bear crossing plan because the road goes through the Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve.

County infrastructure director Steve Gosnell says it could take about 30 days for the bear expert to finish his study.
