It is a disappointment to many, as the snow led to the cancellation of the Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon, but some runners weren't about to let the cancellation stand in their way.
The race was cancelled just after 10:00 o'clock. The City of Myrtle Beach decided for the safety of the runners, volunteers and everyone involved they had to cancel the entire event. They said it was a decision they did not make lightly, but they just can not have runners on the roads in these kind of conditions, not to mention the traffic.
11,000 participants were expected. We talked to two men who decided to run it anyway.
Scott McKeown said, "Well, I came 300 miles just south of DC. We've got two feet of snow on the ground, so I figured, I'm here so I better run anyway, its not a race." He continued, "I mean, I got the t-shirt."
Sam Boid said, "Well 600 miles takes 10 or 11 hours, and its just the kind of thing where you train and you get over here, you spend time and money." He continued, "I've got to get back today and so, its really disappointing, but I guess I have got to do what they got to do."
