Rebecca Denise Lynch, 28, of Johnsonville was sentenced in federal court in Florence for conspiring to illegally distribute prescription drugs.

United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten sentenced Lynch to 30 months in federal prison.

Lynch, while working at Fred's Pharmacy in Hemingway, assisted Melanie Poston of Johnsonville with obtaining prescription drugs illegally.

From 2007 until 2009, Poston was employed at a physician's office in Johnsonville, and began forging prescriptions for powerful painkillers and other narcotics.

She then recruited others to fill the bogus prescriptions at area pharmacies, including at Fred's Pharmacy through Lynch, who knew the prescriptions were forged.

Approximately 8,000 doses of drugs, which included Endocet, Percocet, Lortab, Vicodin, Xanax, and Valium, were illegally obtained by the group.

Poston was sentenced earlier this week to 105 months in federal prison for her role in the conspiracy.

The case was investigated by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the DEA's Diversion Unit. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II, of the Florence office handled the case.
