Florence County Council passed ordinances on three major economic development issues that will pave the way for 350 new jobs to come to the county.

Council Chairman K.G. "Rusty" Smith said they passed an ordinance they hope will prove to be beneficial to keeping Smurfit Stone Container in Florence. The company filed for bankruptcy in January.

Their Florence plant employees about 560 workers.

Smith says council also approved a 'fee in lieu of tax' agreement with J.P. Morgan Chase that could lead to 250 new jobs, and an agreement with Wellman Plastics in Johnsonville that is key to the company adding 100 more workers to its site.
