COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A police officer in a rural South Carolina town has been charged with stealing $191 worth of gasoline.

The State Law Enforcement Division reports 51-year-old Springfield officer John Fulmer was arrested Friday and charged with petty larceny and misconduct in office.

Arrest warrants accuse Fulmer of charging the town for fuel he pumped into his personal vehicle. Affidavits say employee time sheets and video recordings at the gas station record the thefts between July and November.

Orangeburg County jail records show Fulmer spent several hours there before being released Friday on a $10,000 bond. It was unclear if he had an attorney. His Barnwell home number is unlisted.

Springfield is about 55 miles south of Columbia.
