Florence District One school officials locked down McLaurin Elementary School for about 30 minutes Tuesday after someone reported seeing a man walking near the campus with a gun.

Police searched the property surrounding the school on McMillan Road in East Florence and eventually found a man on Tumbleweed Drive who fit the description of the man they were looking for.

He informed police he was hunting for squirrels.

The school day continued as normal.
