U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) announced Monday, the City of Georgetown will receive a $2,250,000 federal grant for drainage improvements.
The funds will be used for drainage improvements to US Highway 17 and Georgetown City Hall.
The project aims to reduce frequent flooding and expand system capacities of flood hazard and storm water quality mitigation. The drainage area includes residential, commercial and industrial land uses.
The grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Georgetown's Utility Department already has a plan for the improvements, they were just waiting on funding.
It could be a few weeks before they know when actual work on the improvements can begin.
