Conway Police spokeswoman Catina Hipp says detectives have a woman in custody and are questioning a man in connection with the disappearance of a 2-week-old baby boy early this morning.

Investigators haven't released details about who's in custody, but they plan to file formal charges against the woman sometime Wednesday.

The baby's great-aunt says he was found alive around 4:00 this afternoon after being taken by someone close to the baby's mother.

Bernadette Baker says 2-week-old Sharawn Jarod Chestnut, Jr. was found in a bag under a truck seat. Hipp confirmed that, but couldn't provide further details Tuesday night.

Baker tells us a friend of Criche Nelson, the child's mother, took the baby from his home while Nelson was in the shower. Baker said the woman then took the child to a neighbor and asked her to keep him for the night. Conway Police will not confirm any details about where the baby was found or by whom, though relatives said someone phoned in a tip which led to the truck being stopped near Mill Pond Road and Highway 501 in Conway.

Hipp said Nelson called police just after midnight Tuesday morning to report Sharawn missing from their home on Duckett Street.

Police said Nelson reported putting her one-year-old daughter and Sharawn to bed around 11:00 p.m. Monday. Nelson told police she checked on her children around midnight and discovered Sharawn was missing.

Sharawn is home, unharmed, with his mother.

The reason for no Amber Alert!

Posted by Michele Fee, Surfside - Monday, November 16, 2009 at 2:29 p.m.

If I am not mistaken the reason there was no Amber Alert was because until just prior to the baby being found they had no Vehicle or suspect information for an Amber Alert!!!!I am sure that the individuals of authority within any Police Department in the United States of America, has had more than 9 wks training, Bare in mind the decision makers ARE the "higher ups", not an academy graduate. I am positive they have had MANY years of experience on the job as well as whatever training they had prior to being employeed as a Police Officer and during his/her tenure as a Police Officer. I assure you all the do NOT put a 9 wk Cadet in Charge of an Amber Alert Decision. Yes I am a civilian I simply have more than 1 brain cell that functions properly.

my condolences

What's your name?

Primera Dama....you cannot even get that name right! Here's the thing, give us your name so whenever you need help from the police, they'll know not to waste their time trying to save an ungrateful, ignorant person. Get your facts correct about police officers and this case. And if any DICK can become a police officer, what are you waiting for...you seem to be THE biggest one out there!

Now about the case, I am so thankful that this baby was found alive. Thank you, God.

Please People

Why don't you people who critize the police department wait with your coments until all the facts come out about this missing child. Just wait for all the facts......

MS. McCANDLESS......

Response to Ms.McCandless:
There is a "recommended" criteria for Amber Alerts and in it is that the dept. have info on a suspect. NOTICE I SAID "RECOMMENDED", its NOT a must. So, its obvious to me that the selfish CONWAY police are more concerned with covering their own behinds and their precious job than SAVING A CHILD'S LIFE!! These police officers act like their job is so much, well trust me, it takes only 9wks of CRJ to become law enforcement... any John, Dick, or Mary can do it. LOL LOL LOL and the Academy, a breeze. So CONWAY... can you please grow some and FIND THIS BABY!!! AMBER ALERT, AMBER ALERT, AMBER ALERT!!!

Missing infant

Why didnt this police dept. issue an amber alert for this missing baby? The public can be a big help in this type of situation, but if they arent aware of it how can they help? Someone might have seen something to help in the investigation. Just ask John Walsh, the more people watching out for each other the better. I just hope its not to late for this child to be found. Say some prayers.
