COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- One person was treated at a hospital after a chloroform spill at a South Carolina law firm.

WIS-TV reports that one person was sent to the hospital Tuesday after a bag containing chloroform was spilled inside the Pincus and Loomis Law Firm in Columbia.

Chloroform is used to induce unconsciousness and is a component of human decomposition. Firefighters said a law firm employee accidentally dropped a plastic bag containing the colorless, toxic liquid.

Six people were inside the building when the spill happened.

Authorities say the person was treated at the hospital but should be OK.

Deputies are still trying to find out why the chloroform was at the law firm. Pincus and Loomis says on its Web site that the firm specializes in divorce and child custody disputes.
