It happened the way many people predicted, there will be a runoff in the Myrtle Beach mayoral race.

The incumbent, John Rhodes received 48% of the vote, and former Mayor Mark McBride garnered 28%.

To win the race a candidate needed 50 percent plus one vote.

This race has been called a referendum on the May biker rallies and one percent ad tax in Myrtle Beach.

Rhodes helped push the ad tax through council, while McBride was a strong opponent of the tax which is supposed raise millions of dollars to advertise Myrtle Beach around the country and help alleviate property taxes for residents.

The runoff for mayor will be held in two weeks.

We'll have reaction coming up tonight on NewsChannel 15 at 11 and right here on CarolinaLive.com.

Give it up Mark McBride

Posted by Nett Poston, Myrtle Beach - Monday, November 09, 2009 at 9:57 p.m.

Mytle Beach needs leadership by someone who can make changes. Mark McBride needs to step out of the race, he's in it for himself, and not for the people. He's all about what he can make out of it, and doesn't care what the residents want. He has closed ears to options, and needs to stop running. We don't want you as our mayor, you did a shotty job the last time you were placed in it. Do something else for a living. John Rhodes knows how to make good decisions for everyone, and he deserves the job.

Mark McBride past actions speak loud and clear, what a record. Failure to pay taxes, liens on property, how can we have such a great business man running our city................

SAD

I think it is a sad state of affairs that the incumbents felt it neccesary to sling mud and spend an outragious amount of money on campaigning to win this race. What happened to running on your merits??? Instead you decided to sling mud. I also would love to know exactly WHO IS " GOOD GOVERMENT FOR MYRTLE BEACH. MY guess is a bunch of folks with too much money and an agenda!!! Maybe us working stiffs should start an agenda. It seems like our mayor will cater to whomever will provide his campaign with the most $$$$$$$$$$$$

Mcbride is the man

Mark Mcbride has done a lot of great things for the city of Myrtle Beach. He is also a better man then rhodes will ever be! I also think its pretty bad when the other party has to bring up Mcbrides family in this race, Attack the man not his family, look how low rhodes will go to get people on his side ( He needs people on his side, Mcbride all ready has them). GO MCBRIDE!!!! Bring MB BACK AGAIN!

Very very sad

I don't live in Myrtle Beach, but if you want to re-elect John Rodes, then I feel sorry for you. I understand that alot of you want to live in a peacefull and quiet place, and that's what you will get. Because of him over riding the state law with the motorcycle helmets, and running the bike rallies away, you will get peace, when alot more hotels and places shut down, just because they can't afford to stay open. You talk about taking back May, well how many tourist come here durring that time, except for the bike rallies? Not very many. Don't worry though, the residents of Myrtle Beach will get the peace you want so bad. Enjoy it when Myrtle Beach becomes a ghost town in due time.

Results Speak for Themselves

McBride is not well liked after his last stint at mayor and residents do not want rallies. It is across the board from mayor to council. End of story.

I see a comment about standing with Rhodes and taking back your city. How is that gonna work when 52% voted against him. You do the math.
