A civil rights group is raising questions about the school resource officer who shot and killed a Carolina Forest High School student.

Police say that student, Trevor Varinecz, attacked officer Marcus Rhodes with a knife. Rhodes retaliated and shot Varinecz five times. The 17-year-old died.

State police are investigating.

Tuesday afternoon, Abdullah Mustafa, of the National Action Network, met with the school district about concerns he says he's heard from parents who know the officer.

"What's the problem here is that there's a kid that's been shot, OK, and again we feel this young man should be here today. It was excess force, and having learned that this officer character is nasty, that we don't want him back in the school system. it's that simple," said Mustafa.

We called the school district's spokeswoman for comment. She did not return the call.

1. Where was the boys shadow? 2. Many people have stated how arrogant and bullish officer Rhodes is.( not just a few but many )also that he has his buddies (students)and picks on others. 3.What type weapon was used on the officer, he had no life threatening wounds. He was released shortly after getting to the hospital. 4. Without provication, why would this nonviolent young man go after this particular person? There is no evidence, that he had any intentions of harming or hurting any other student in the school. 5.Why shoot this young man 5 times, unless you intend to KILL him. IN my opinion the officer should be charged with MANSLAUGHTER!
This officer should face a jury of his piers and they should decide if excessive force was used.
If this were any other citizen, he would have been arrested and the solicitor would be asking for the death penalty.

Abdullah Mustafa is more than a raging idiot. The Naacp has problems with him, what does that say about him. The comments he makes and the things he does is out-of-line. He is a disgrace to this community. I think supporters of Officer Rhodes (I mean people with any common sense) should join together and make sure this idiot Mustafa is put in is place!!
Officer Rhodes belongs back in that school, it's the best thing the district and the police department could do!!

He was only a danger to himself.

Trevor was not a dangerous person. I knew him personally, and he would never harm anyone. It has been said over and over that his actions were completely out of character.
Plus, if Rhodes is in school, how do you think the students will feel knowing that should they say or do anything incriminating, their officer who is supposed to keep them SAFE will shoot first, and face allegations later??
