Officials in Chesterfield County say a woman there was stabbed several times and left for dead on the side of the road.
A passerby found the 46-year-old woman in a ditch at the intersection of Highway 151 and Old Creek Road, near the Jefferson Community, last Thursday.
Sergeant Wayne Jordan with the Chesterfield County sheriff's office says the woman is in critical condition at an area hospital.
Sergeant Jordan says he's following all leads to track down a suspect in this crime.
