The Horry County Clerk of Court's Office has confirmed to NewsChannel 15 that a grand jury is meeting Thursday to decide whether to indict Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce on a hit and run charge.

Back in April, Pierce was arrested after police say she left the scene of an accident.

Atlantic Beach Police say Pierce was pulling across three lanes of traffic, sideswiped another car and then left.

Pierce contends it was the other car that left.

An official from the clerk of court's office says we won't know if Pierce is indicted until late Thursday afternoon.

Governor Sanford has said if Pierce is indicted, he'll most likely suspend her pending the case's outcome.
