COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A home-schooling parent and small busines owner says she's running to be South Carolina's education superintendent.
Elizabeth Moffly of Awendaw said Thursday she's entering the Republican race for 2010. Moffly came in fourth of five candidates in the 2006 Republican primary.
Moffly has home-schooled her four children, ages 14 to 20. She is co-owner of Moffly Construction and other Charleston County businesses.
The school choice advocate wants to reduce the number of high school credits required for a South Carolina diploma, from 24 to 19. She also wants students to get college credit for high school classes they pass.
Other announced candidates include Republican Brent Nelsen, a Furman University professor, and Democrat Frank Holleman, a Greenville attorney.
