State Representative Tracy Edge of North Myrtle Beach is responding, after the mayor of Atlantic Beach compared him to a slave master.

Embattled Mayor Retha Pierce and community members gathered at a restaurant in Atlantic Beach Thursday night. They say there are state and county officials working in the shadows with the town to set Pierce up and ensure that Atlantic Beach does not prosper.

Pierce said, "I've been falsely accused and you're not giving me my day in court, oh master, master, Representative Edge, don't whip me no more. I've already been to jail 4 times that's whipping enough. And I'm gonna stand, I'm gonna stand for my people! I'm gonna stand for Atlantic Beach!"

Pierce was referring to Edge's call for the governor to remove her from office after she had been arrested for the 4th time in two years. Friday, Representative Edge released this statement: "Mayor Pierce has been arrested 4 times in the past 18 months. This is a very sad case. Clearly she has serious problems that make her unfit to serve as mayor. On a personal level, I feel compassion for her and I hope she will get the help she needs to get her life in order. But the citizens of Atlantic Beach need and deserve a mayor capable of doing the job. They don't have that now."

ever wonder why

when you drive ocean blvd...you have to turn off and hit business 17 for about 3 blocks then turn back to continue your enjoyment of driving along the beach...
Ever wonder why...cause Atlantic Beach is stuck in the past....They have segragated themselves from the rest of the grand strand....they own two blocks of beach front property...open up the road and simply build a restaurant would put an end to all their money problems....BUT INSTEAD THEY'D RATHER HEAD DOWN THE ROAD TO NOWHERE....INSTEAD THEY ELECT A MAYOR THAT THINKS FOR SOME ODD REASON THAT SHE'S ABOVE THE LAW....SHE HAS BEEN ARRESTED NOT ONCE, BUT 4 TIMES...MAYBE SHE'S INNOCENT...BUT 4 TIMES AND THE FIRST CASE HASN'T EVEN GONE TO COURT YET.....

fed up

this is the type of stuff that makes me sick!!!.she has no one else to blame but herself. when there is nowhere else to turn and no other way to shift the blame, she has to pull out the race card. Why do some people think their color is a valid excuse for the unethical and criminal acts they take.PLEASE GET IT THRU YOUR HEAD.IT'S NOT YOUR RACE THAT IS OFFENSIVE BUT THE WAY YOU DIRESPECT ALL THE OTHER MEMBERS OF YOUR RACE WHEN YOU ACT THIS WAY.grow up and try to be the public servant you were elected to be and not the liability you have become. But this is just the thoughts of an "old breed ex-marine" who knows what serving the people is all about.

"Drama Queen"

It appears that Reatha Pierce has alot of issues, mental or not, I think she needs and deserves some physic help. Why is it, when in a position such as herself, would it appear descrimination plays a part, this person has been arrested "4" times. I really feel if this person is capable of performing her duties, then why would she even dare call someone a "slave driver", "master, master". This is so "childish"! Appears she should be titled "Drama Queen" and not "Mayor"!

Deck of cards

Playing the race card once more. Between Ed Robinson in Florence and this lady, among others, it's really about time they relaize that deck is about to run out.

I am no angel myself and had my share of problems. I too lived in public eye. Pastor, Law enforcement officer. However, the mayor should step aside with all of this happening, and name calling need to stop.

If she hads a personal problem, please mayor do the right thing. So the town can move forward. It is always good to be the better person. In due season you can rebound from all of this.

slave master

retha and ed need to stop with all the race ignorance. If they put in the energy to get some work done like they do making scenes, really good things might happen!
They both agreed to conduct themselves properly when they took office.
Slave master! trying to stir someone up there retha?
