COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's highest court has reprimanded a former county magistrate who had been charged with larceny.

The state Supreme Court on Monday issued a public reprimand against former Lexington County Magistrate Jamie T. Lucas.

Lucas, his wife and their friend were arrested in January 2008 and charged with petit larceny after authorities said they took a statue from a Lexington County home.

Lucas was suspended and the charges were dropped several months later. The court says Lucas has since resigned and has agreed not to seek any other judicial position without the court's permission.

The reprimand is the most severe punishment the court can give Lucas because he has already resigned.

A telephone listing for Lucas could not be found.
