A Dillon County man is spending the first night of his five year prison sentence behind bars for the death of a 10-year-old boy.
56-year-old Bentley Collins showed no emotion as the guilty verdicts came down.
A jury convicted him of three counts of owning dangerous animals and involuntary manslaughter in the death of 10-year-old John Matthew Davis.
In 2006, Collins' dogs attacked the child as he walked home.
Collins talked about the verdict as the deputies led him out of the courtroom.
"Not in a million years would I ever even considered that they could come back with a guilty verdict or any of them, much less all of them. I mean you know not in a million years would I ever suspect it to come out like that," said Collins.
Collins apologized to the child's mother in court and said that he never thought his dogs would harm anyone.
Once he is released from prison, the judge ordered him to get a job and pay restitution to the victim's family. He also will not to own a dog for five years.
