Insurance rates for drivers in the state increased a little last year, but still remain lower than most of the country.

Figures released by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners show the average driver paid about $756 a year on auto insurance in 2006. That's $61 cheaper than the national average.

The rates in the current study do not include the impact of a state law that took effect January 1st this year, requiring increased minimum coverage for South Carolina drivers.
