GEORGETOWN -- The Georgetown Coast Guard Station received the Sumner I. Kimball Readiness Award Wednesday.
The Kimball Award is given to Coast Guard units that exemplify excellence through drills and equipment inspections.
This is Georgetown's first Kimball Award.
Rear Admiral Bill Baumgartner, Commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District, says that the Georgetown Station should feel an immense sense of pride for this award.
The station at Georgetown received a plaque to place on their wall and a pennant to fly on base.
"It's a big accomplishment for the crew that they've worked really hard and prepared as we continue to do day to day," said Officer-in-Charge Robin Kirby.
The Coast Guard gives out 15 Kimball Awards annually.
