NewsChannel 15 has learned a candidate for South Carolina House of Representatives District 53 has filed an election protest with the SC Election Commission.

Richard Yow filed the protest Monday over the November 6 general election.

The district includes Chesterfield and Lancaster Counties.

Yow was the Republican candidate for the seat.

He took on incumbent Ted Vick and petition candidate Phil Powell.

Vick was re-elected to the seat.

The protest was filed against Chesterfield County Election Commission and Voter Registration, Phil Powell and Ted Vick.

Yow says there were numerous material irregularities, errors and problems that affected the results of the election.

The protest says more than 2,000 illegal/improper votes were cast in the election by a combination of voters who no longer lived within District 53, thus making them ineligible to vote.

No word on when or if the SC Election Commission will hear the protest.
