Wreck on Highway 17 Bypass and Tournament Boulevard  / Whitney Gramling

About 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, an Horry County Fire Rescue ambulance was involved in a wreck on the south end of the Grand Strand.

Horry County Fire Rescue says its ambulance was stopped at the light on Highway 17 Bypass at Tournament Boulevard. It says the light just turned green when the car ran into the back of the ambulance.

The driver of that car was flown to Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The two workers in the ambulance went to Waccamaw Medical Center to get checked out.

The ambulance was returning from Waccamaw Medical Center so the workers were the only people in the vehicle.

Police blocked off the Highway 17 Bypass from the Garden City Connector to Tournament Boulevard.

Highway Patrol is still investigating.
