Technology talk took center stage at the Horry County Public Safety Committee meeting Monday morning. Members met at the Government and Justice Center in Conway to discuss goals for the 2011 fiscal year.
Upgrading a communication system that will help in case of an emergency, such as a hurricane or fire, and applying applications to do everything from monitor radios to tracking inventory was at the top of the list.
Members also shared the success of technology upgrades already in place like the Online Court Management or CMS system which allows people to pay traffic tickets online. "All you have to do is log on to your computer at home and pay the ticket. I see this helping out with a lot of tourists paying tickets. It saves them the inconvenience of having to send a money order or appearing in court," said Application Project Coordinator Lisa Strickland.
601 web payments have been received since January 19th with a revenue of about $62,000.
Myrtle Beach is expected to add a similar service soon.
