A "major announcement" concerning the future of the Southern Evacuation Lifeline is expected Monday, Horry County Councilman Howard Barnard said in a news release.
SELL, as its known, is a project that would create a new 28-mile highway that connects the southern end of the Grand Strand to major evacuation routes like Highways 22 and 501.
For years the task force has studied different options for the proposed evacuation route, and their decision is expected on Monday.
A transportation official with knowledge of the plan said a toll road will be proposed, but he couldn't provide additional specifics.
Councilman Barnard wouldn't comment on what is proposed and said whatever their decision is will have to go to Horry County Council which would be the next step in the approval process.
The meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Surfside Beach Library at 410 Surfside Beach Drive.
