A Maxton police officer is on administrative leave after he shot a man while responding to a noise complaint.

Police say Officer Duron Burney shot the man after the man assaulted him.

North Carolina's state police are investigating.

Burney also works for the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.

His position there is not affected.
