Millions of viewers watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition every week to see a community come together and help a family they don't even know. But the spectators we talked with today say that doesn't compare to watching the build in person.
One word is all it takes for the spectators on site Wednesday to explain why they are compelled to check out the site. "Miracle" "Unbelievable" "Electrifying" "Wonderment" "Amazing" were just some of the words we heard.
Maryellen MacDonald elaborated. "When we got here it was like, Wow! How did they do it?" Kay Drake said, "If it takes a year for someone to build a home, how can they put this one up in just seven days?"
For others, like Bill Windham, it was learning the story of a deserving family they've never even met. "Wonderful how this family took in kids and kept them from being separated." [More about the Suggs family]
"I think she must be a wonderful mother and sister to them, and her husband is a public servant," said McDonald.
Some of the spectators are fans of ABC's hit show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. "I watch every Sunday, and it leaves you feeling so good," said Dawn Moore.
"This is the American spirit. I'm proud of our nation and proud of the people in it. This goes to show what you can do when you try a little bit," said Windham.
The site is open to spectators. The show is running shuttles from Highway 701 North at Allsbrook Grocery about 2 miles south of Loris. The site is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
