Besides shopping, many Grand Strand families will take part in another holiday tradition this weekend, picking out a Christmas tree.
Members of the Goodman family, who grow Christmas trees in Ashe County, North Carolina, were busy setting up their tree lot in Carolina Forest Thursday.
Their lot sells mostly Fraser Firs along with a few White Pines.
They say this year, during the recession, people may not buy as large a tree as in the past, but they won't give up on having a tree at Christmas.
"The side things didn't sell as much. We didn't sell as much garland and we didn't sell as many wreaths and we didn't sell as many stands here on the lot. But people still bought a Christmas Tree. And I think that trend's going to continue," said Robin Jeter with Goodman's Trees.
Jeter says the secret to keeping a tree fresh is to make sure it always has plenty of water.
