(AP) -- The unemployment rate in South Carolina rose nearly half a percentage point in October, to 12.1 percent.

The Employment Security Commission also said Friday it had revised September's rate up 0.1 percentage points, to 11.7. The agency says the number of unemployed people in South Carolina went up by nearly 10,000 in October, to about 263,000.

The state's overall job count was down 60,500 from a year ago. It's nearly 95,000 below December 2007, when the recession began. Allendale County had the state's highest jobless rate, at 22

percent. Unemployment was lowest in Lexington County, at 8.6 percent.

State-by-state unemployment numbers for October were to be released later Friday. South Carolina's September jobless rate was the nation's fifth-highest.

Foreclosing on Foreclosures

Posted by Vincent Lehotsky, Allsbrook - Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 9:25 a.m.

I'm seeing how bad it is when a local businessman thinking he can make extra bucks off the miseries of others buys up a bunch of foreclosed homes thinking he can flip them. Well he cannot and he's paying a hefty interest on them. He has a market of which he laid off a lot of workers and now he and his wife work the registers.
It's also not good when I see on WPDE about how the IRS is wanting us taxpayers to pay back part or all of the few hundred dollars of any stimulus monies that we have received. Yet not asking for the Wall Street business people to pay back their billions.

Politics plays a part in all this because if the other guy had won, some commentors would have been okay with his plan to raise taxes in the trillions as well.

But then locally we still waste money in Columbia by seeking to impeach a Lame-duck Governor. But that's okay.

Isn't the boardwalk in MB right now being paid for with Borrowed Money? Making it cost more than the projected amount. But that's okay, cuz if it was a Democrat administration at city hall then there'd be complaints.
Did that tax make shoppers avoid the Wal-mart in MB due to that tax and the boycotting of businesses in that city? Whereupon the WM is now cutting back hours.
I would think that I'd be spending more money during the holidays, but a coupla illegals now have my old job.
Don't thnk they'll spend any dinero locally when they hafto send it back home in remittances.
