Several charges have been dropped against suspended Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce.

But, Pierce will continue to be suspended as the dropped charges are unrelated to the suspension.

Atlantic Beach Town Manager William Booker tells us when Pierce went to court to face trespassing and disorderly conduct from an incident at town hall earlier this year the arresting officers did not appear in court.

Atlantic Beach Police Chief Randy Rizzo was one of those arresting officers and he has since been suspended from the job and Officer Jamie Turner was the other and he has since quit. So, the judge dismissed the charges.

But Pierce's suspension by Governor Mark Sanford stems from a hit and run charge. She was indicted by a grand jury several weeks ago on that charge and the governor responded with a suspension.

AB ALWAYS WAS & ALWAYS WILL BE CORRUPT NO MATTER WHO'S IN OFFICE.

Are you serious?

We should have known this would happen. A corrupt city government that stays corrupt. The idea of giving it to NC is great, but they probably wouldn't take it!

You've got to be kidding me

So the charges get dropped because the police chief is suspecnded and the other one quit.

What a mess AB is. Can we give it to NC?

Figures...

WoW!! Whats a great legal system we have. Charges dropped because the police chief got arrested, and the other officer quit. So.... There were no other witnesses to her crimes that day. Im sure the NAACP is having a party for her.

The Sun News online has the video of Pierce being placed in the patrol car. Sun News photographer Randall Hill was at the AB Town Hall, on another assignement. Click on "PHOTOS" then "VIDEOS," type in Retha Pierce and look for "Retha Pierce arrested at AB town hall."

Suspended AB Police Chief Rizzo was present, as well as Cpl. Charles Bryant and Ofc. Jamie Turner.

The Sun News online also has the video of Pierce being arrested for trespassing and disorderly conduct at the AB Town Hall. Click on "PHOTOS" then "VIDEOS," type in Retha Pierce and look for "Retha Pierce's arrest."

The video shows ABPD Ofc. Jamie Turner placing the handcuffs on Pierce.

While Magistrate Whitley was hearing cases from AB last Tuesday, he was told by Acting Police Chief Bryant that Turner was no longer with the ABPD. Judge Whitley dismissed almost every case arising from AB for failure to prosecute because Rizzo and Turner were not present.

The ABPD is now down to two officers, Acting Chief Bryant and Ofc. Jackson. One or both are usually in Town during the day, but there is usually no ABPD officers on duty at night.
