A purse snatcher who yanked a purse from a 73-year-old woman, dashed from the scene, hopped in her car, and ran over two people Monday morning.

Myrtle Beach Police said the woman walked into the K-Mart on Kings Highway around 9:30 Monday morning and snatched the purse.

According to an incident report, she ran from the store and toward her car. The 73-year-old began screaming, asked for help, and tried to follow the woman.

A man inside the store joined in the effort and so did a 50-year-old woman in the parking lot.

According to police, the man and the 50-year-old ran after the woman and lunged toward the car to stop her. The man grabbed the driver side door and bent it backward, while the woman jumped in and tried to stop the woman from leaving.

By this time, the 73-year-old had made it to the car, but the suspect put the car in reverse and backed over the woman. Police said the suspect also ran over the 50-year-old. NewsChannel 15 has learned that 50-year-old may be paralyzed, and the 73-year-old woman is in serious condition.

Police put out the following details about a possible suspect vehicle:

  • An older model 4-door GM Celebrity (dark in color and mid-1980s) or an older model 2-door Pontiac Sunbird
  • Car may have a temporary 45-day paper tag
  • Car has significant damage to rear as it hit other vehicles as it was leaving
  • Driver side door may be bent and unable to close

Police released the following suspect description:

  • White female
  • Long blondish/brown hair in a ponytail
  • Just over 5' tall

Police ask anyone with information to call the main number at 843-918-1382 or Detective Tony Allen at 843-918-1905.
