A Florence County woman charged in connection with the deaths of her mother-in-law and father-in-law has been ordered to undergo mental health counseling.

In May, federal agents charged Jodie Poole and her husband Timothy in a 20-count indictment.

Federal officers say as part of a conspiracy, the Poole's killed William and Linda Hilton at their home in Williamsburg County in 2006.

Investigators say they committed the murders to benefit from the Hilton's trust and estate.

Jodie Poole will undergo mental counseling as a condition of her release on bond.

Actually this person only was in jail for about 3 days before being released..and has been out since May !! So NOW they want to have her mental status check..?? This women is being charged with helping her husband MURDER his mother and step-father for money ...do you not think she is crazy..??

This is a very sad case...it shows you just how mean people are in this world. How someones life means nothing. 2 people are dead, 2 people should be in prison and the whole family on both sides ripped apart. Now this couples small son has to grow up without his Grandmother, Grandfather, Father and Mother !! ALL BECAUSE OF MONEY !!

Mental Evaluation?

They are kidding right? Arrested for double murder and awaiting trial and bond is being considered. But in order to make bond the accused must undergo mental evaluation. In other words there is concern about the mental stability of an accused murderer; what an original thought. But the most puzzling thought is why would bond even be considered?

What does that say to the vast number of would be preditors out there? It seems to say; go and do what you please and the justice system will be considerate of you after your arrest. We will provide you with legal council at no charge. If you kill someone we will in all probability grant you bond so you can be free while waiting for a trial. We will have you mentally evaluated, so you can make bond requirement easier.

What about the danger that person represents to the rest of the world? But, after all the victim is a secondary consideration so why consider the danger anyway. This doesn't send a very strong message to would be violent preditors. When people have no fear of retribution; more people commit crimes. Easy sentences, plea bargins, early parole are just a few of the reasons why there is so much violent crime and so many repeat offenders. Make criminals pay a heavy price and fewer people will be willing to pay that price.
