The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has given a grant under the stimulus package to the Emergency Food and Shelter Program in Horry County which was formed by FEMA to help residents with food, utilities and rent assistance.

This program consists of United Way of Horry County and several of its agencies working together with other non-profits in a collaboration effort to assure Horry County residents receive the help they need.

The United Way's food pantries are coordinating a portion of the grant money to purchase food for the mass distribution sites to help feed our neighbors who are experiencing difficult economic times.

These pantries are: Churches Assisting People, Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach, North Strand Helping Hand and South Strand Helping Hand.

Information on the second mass food distribution:

The second mass food distribution will be on Saturday, August 29th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm at the Christ the Servant Lutheran Church on Hwy 501 in Conway for anyone in need of food who has recently become unemployed.

This distribution is being hosted by Churches Assisting People (CAP).

Food is being purchased through Food Lion of Conway (off Hwy 501 near Coastal Carolina University) and the Low Country Food Bank.

Food Lion is also donating extra food items to this great cause.

The other distributions will be located throughout Horry County.

The third distribution will be on Saturday, September 26th, Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach will be providing the mass food distribution at the Grand Strand Senior Center on 21st Ave North in Myrtle Beach.
