The Georgetown County Sheriff's office announced Monday, the arrest of 47-year-old Brenda Thomas Godwin and her son, 19 year old Benjamin Godwin on drug charges after an ongoing investigation by the Georgetown County Organized Crime Bureau.

Brenda Thomas Godwin was arrested August 6, 2009 for Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Possession with the Intent to Distribute within a half mile of a school, 2 counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance, and Simple Possession of Marijuana.

19-year-old Benjamin Godwin was arrested for Simple Possession of Marijuana.

The sheriff's office said in a news release the arrests were made in conjunction with a search warrant of Godwin's home after purchasing narcotics from the residence. During the search officials say they seized 41 Alprazolam (Xanax) pills, 100 Oxycodone pills and 1.7 grams of Marijuana. Members also located .6 grams of Marijuana in Godwin's son's hand during the initial entry of the residence.

The sheriff's office says the investigation that led to the arrest of Godwin and her son began in June of 2009 and stemmed from several complaints of ongoing illegal drug activity at the residence.
