Marlboro County youngsters voiced their opinions Monday on better healthcare and education.

The students are involved in the Children's Defense Fund Freedom School's program.

Monday, throughout the country, all schools in the program held events in support of a National Day of Social Action.

The youngsters held signs and posted banners calling for better healthcare and asking Congress to reform public school education so that all children are guaranteed a decent education.

"We're making a step forward, progress in the community. We're starting with the youth, because they are today. A lot of people say they are our future, but they are our now," said Emil Douglas with the Children's Defense Fund.

The students wrote letters to local, state, and national leaders listing all the changes they would like to see in education.
