The fire began around 5:00 Saturday afternoon in the Salters Cove community in Garden City, just off of Highway 17 business.

Garden City Fire Chief Norman Knight tells NewsChannel 15 that two homes are a total loss and another two are 50 to 75 percent destroyed.

Thick, black smoke plumes could be seen from miles away.

The Coastal Chapter of the Red Cross says six people have been displaced as a result of the fires, but there were no reports of any injuries.

The homes are reportedly permanent residences. Chief Knight says they're still investigating how the fires began, but at this point they believe the fires began accidentally.
