Wednesday employers in Myrtle Beach learned details about a new state law to crack down on illegal immigrants.
The South Carolina Immigration Reform Act goes into effect July 1st.
Officials with the State Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation held a seminar in Myrtle Beach to inform local employers about how the law will impact them.
This year the law will only effect companies that employ at least 100 people.
"Then you have to verify every new employee hired after July 1st to insure that that person is who he says he is and that he or she is authorized to work in this country," said Jim Knight with SC Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
Knight said, next year all employers in the state will have to verify that their workers are in the country legally.
He says any employer who finds out that a worker is an illegal immigrant, is required to terminate that employee.
