Now that Governor Mark Sanford has requested $700 million in federal stimulus money, the majority of which will go to schools over the next two years, where does Dillon District Two now stand?
Dillon District Two was thrust into the national spotlight because of JV Martin Junior High School, which is in a building that's more than 100 years old.
Superintendent Ray Rogers says the stimulus money has put them in a better financial position.
Earlier this year, Rogers told us he expected to receive about $1.8 million through the fund.
Rogers says the money will help ease the gravity of cuts they've already made.
However, the district still hasn't sold $60 million in bonds needed to build a school to replace the aging JV Martin Jr. High.
Rogers says there is good news, as two companies are looking at buying the bonds, and if the deal goes through, he says their first project is to rebuild JV Martin.
