After months of sitting vacant, what once was Hard Rock Park came to life as Freestyle Music Park.
The crowds were a bit slow when the gates opened at 11:00am, but through the day the crowds grew.
It hasn't been quite a year since Hard Rock Park filed for bankruptcy last September. At the time, the owners pledged they would reopen. But as we know now, that never happened.
This past February, a new group, FPI MB Entertainment, bought the park and revamped it. Freestyle Music Park boasts new shows, new rides, but perhaps the biggest draw is still that roller coaster.
The roller coaster that was once the Led Zeppelin is now the Time Machine and it was up and running today. We ran into some loyal Hard Rock Park fans who are glad Freestyle has reopened in its place. They seem to like what the new management has done. "That they added more kids rides, more things for them to come do. we just really enjoy living so close to something like this," said Robin Reynolds, Myrtle Beach.
John Stine is Freestyle Music Park's marketing director. He says the changes were made to make the park more family friendly. "I think more of a family environment, more interaction among each other, an opportunity to really share a lot of these great rides and shows together."
Stine says they're not releasing attendance numbers right now. The park will be open until 10:00pm tonight.
