COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina voters may be asked whether their right to hunt and fish should be protected by the state constitution.

The House voted 106-1 on Tuesday to approve a proposal that would allow voters to decide. The vote easily met the required two-thirds approval needed for a constitutional amendment.

The measure needs another perfunctory vote before heading to the Senate.

South Carolina is known as a gun-friendly state, but legislators said the amendment is needed in case antigun forces eventually try to restrict the sports.

The proposal died last year because of specific wording requested by the National Rifle Association.

For some with the economy they way it is, hunting/fishing is the only way to provide food. It's a matter of survival. If the it fails it is another step toward a socialist/marxist government that Ballaclk Osama wants.

Good for you gentleman[and ladies, of course]in the state house. We can take comfort in the near 100% vote cast for our right to hunt, and also an added safeguard for our right to keep and bear arms. Let us hope if and when it comes to a referendum the citizens of SC will do their part also. bravo.
