A soldier from Lake City who was killed in Iraq and earned a Silver Star was recognized Friday at Fort Jackson in Columbia.

Sgt Major Michael Stack died in 2004 while protecting his special forces team.

He fended off attackers with a machine gun on a Humvee - saving all his men.

Friday, military leaders dedicated a ceremonial hall at the training base in Columbia in his honor.

The room will be where those joining the military take their entry oaths.
