Read more: Local, Freestyle Music Park, Hard Rock Park, Sign

You know the name change is official when the first sign goes up. That's what happened Friday at the former Hard Rock Park.

Crews took down the Hard Rock sign and put up a Freestyle Music Park sign.

It's just the first of many that will have to be replaced.

The park is scheduled to open in just a month and half, which doesn't give the owners much time to advertise the new name.

Chamber of Commerce officials say the park's new owners have six months of work to do in six weeks.

"They've done a good job of reaching out to other local businesses, so they've got their work cut out for them for the next six weeks. But we're hopeful they'll be able to get it up and running and start out the summer with a huge smash," said Brad Dean, president of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Dean says the key for the park will be to have all the rides and the staff ready to go - and he thinks they'll do that.

Let's hope they come to there senses

Posted by Lincoln Evrard, Raleigh, NC - Friday, April 17, 2009 at 2:25 p.m.

Let's hope they come to there senses on this name for the 2010 season. Hopefully (and I don't want to wish this on any park but) the bare minimum of people that this park needs to stay alive will come and they will realize it is mostly due to the name. HRP was one of the coolest names I have heard. Freestyle Music Park sounds pathetic, childish, and it sounds like a park with fields and play sets where you hear music at. NOT A THEME PARK.

Freestyle is an actual Genre on Music... But not Rap

Posted by Latif Mercado, Monroe, NC - Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 2:09 p.m.

Actually, Freestyle is a genre of music that originated in the 80s. But I wouldn’t call it an 80s music because today, Freestyle is still being produced throughout the country, with huge concert followings. Go to http://www.FreestyleBlast.com and you will see all of the shows and concerts happening.
I am an agent for some of the biggest Freestyle acts around the country. Acts like Angel and The Cover Girls, Lil’ Suzy, Stevie B, etc…
If you would like to hear current Freestyle music log on to http://www.LaRadioLive.com “Freestyle’s #1 i-Radio Station” for 24/7 Freestyle. Whats so great is, if the park ever decided to use the Genre of Freestyle Music, the music is so clean, and about nothing but love, it would work perfectly in this family enviroment.

I could back up this park with constant performance throughout the season. Someone needs to contact me!

Owner, Anything Joe's, Personalized Gifts for Kids

So glad to see that the park is going to continue. So glad they got rid of the Hard Rock moniker and think the new name is fine. I own a kids store and parents were "leery" of even checking it out before....families with kids, my customers, are not looking for a rock experience for their kids, but just good clean fun and some meaningful experience to "wear the kids down!". Best of luck to them....it's success will be good for the beach! I think the pricing is reasonable, especially with the lower kids prices....I think they need to really promote the kids prices to make it look attractive, because they are reasonable...

At first I was a little shocked by the name, but learned that FreeStyle Park is really the new company that owns it,thats what the FP in FPI stands for.
As long as they Market it showing rides and that it is indeed a Theme Park it should do ok,atleast they are working everyday to tone down the Hard Rock Park adult monniker that parents complained about last year as well many other policy changes to bring it to being a more family friendly enviroment, as far as rides go,I would have liked 1 or 2 adult rides but I also understand that in just 3 monthss you can't bring in a bunch of portable carnie rides just for the sake to get the ride quota up and be of "QUALITY". People won't travel to come to a Theme Park that has rides they see in a mall parking lot. All these other theme parks that people say it does'nt measure up to "did'nt start" with as many rides as they have now,Give it time,it will grow,it's first phase is just developed on 55 acres but sits on 140.

I DISLIKE THE NEW NAME!!!

Posted by Elaine Grant, Cheraw SC - Sunday, April 12, 2009 at 10:24 p.m.

The new name to me sounds dull and nonexciting. Thought a lot of people I know say the name should be just as exciting as the park. I also think that it will not be a very fun place for families anymore. But I also think that the name is perfect because I don't think I would like the park at all so the dull and nonexciting name is just right for the new park.If all of the rides are the same how will the music be changed? Will Moody Blues become Blue Moon Over Kentucky? Last year for the 20 and 30 times my family and I went we had a great time each time.We will most likely only go once and never go back unless the park shows us some excitement.I hope someday that there will be another park just like Hard Rock Park and it will do better than ever it's just wating for it to come. Lastly as a 13 year old girl I hope to have a park with Rock and Metal music and all fun just like Hard Rock Park was.

Glenn,
When I first learned of the name, I had a tough time getting it, but after reading the park's statement&vision I started to understand that this was'nt going to be just a little local thing, it is destined to grow to other citys and around the world. They already have a FreeStyle Park planned in Moscow, they have also used focus groups to take inquiries in New York,Atlanta and other large Citys and was well recepted,as far as family oriented, they are working and doing what they can to tone down the Hard Rock monniker that upset so many parents last year. Steve Baker who is in Charge worked 20 or so Years in the Disney Parks so I think we'll see some of that family quality brought into this park,I look forward to all the new changes (: Pleas give this park a chance,it takes time to grow. Any park can slap 40 or so carnie rides up in a 3 month period,I would rather see "High Quality" that will earn them a high profile reputation.

Not a great choice.

Does the name make you want to go there right away? No. It will take a alot of marketing $ to make this name be a "draw". Coney Island, as a name, has a better "draw" associated with it. It will take many years to make the name a "household" name. I'll be there to see what they do. I hope they continue to offer a clean, fun, friendly park for everyone to enjoy.

Brand name

Posted by Ken McMichael, Myrtle Beach S.C. - Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 1:21 p.m.

The name "Freestyle" thier useing is the just the Brand name, the name of the park is Music Park, they stated they plan to open other attractions later under the FreeStyle Brand. Personaly once entering the park,I'm not at all obcessed on what the name of the park is if indeed it even has a name,It's then a matter of enjoying what the park has to offer as well the quality of the attractions, scenry&landcape, food, music and overall expeariance. It's just a name folks, get over it.

New name

Freestyle Music Park has got to be the WORST name they could have come up with. While I have nothing against rap or dance music, that is what the word freestyle is associated with. And they were worried about keeping people away because of the Hard Rock name. What kind of dunder heads are running the park This time?

Bad Name

Posted by scott scott, myrtle beach - Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 8:06 a.m.

The new name is more associated to rappers than family loving music. I can see the park turning into a place over run by disrepectful guests with their pants around their knees, bad attitudes and negative influence on families. There is no better song to associate with the main attraction, the Zeplin roller caoster than "whole lotta love". This song was made for this ride or vice versa. It will get a lot less attention from guests with Keny Chesney or Conway Twitty playing in the background. Instead of the dozen or more trips I made to the park last year I will make one and that will probably be my last. The second death of the park will be more painful than the first.

New beginning

Posted by Ken McMichael, Myrtle Beach - Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 12:15 a.m.

At first when I learned of the new name, I had my concerns&doubts but after reading thier statement and what thier aiming for I can see thier point,Many complained about the "Hard Rock" name as well, some wanted something localized like Myrtle Beach Park but the new owners intentions "reach further" then just Myrtle Beach alone.
There are many Brand names out there for Theme Parks that probably did'nt get rave reviews in their humble beginnings and they are still around today, this park will only grow and succeed if we SUPPORT it.

New Park Name

That is a horrible name! Now not only does the park only look it but the name also sounds very uninteresting! They need to at least tear down the old Pottery buildings so it might look a little more appealing.
