Atlantic Beach Town Council voted Monday night to allow its town manager to continue talks of a redevelopment plan with surrounding governments.

The cornerstone of the plan includes Atlantic Beach receiving an estimated $500,000 from Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach and Horry County.

As NewsChannel 15 has reported previously, the money would go toward infrastructure needs as well as assisting with zoning and town staffing, among other things.

Myrtle Beach City Manager Tom Leath said recently the idea is to get Atlantic Beach ready for development so that it can move away from a rally-driven economy -- and toward a "year-round" economy.

It's an idea that has rattled folks from Atlantic Beach and throughout the rest of Horry County.

Many residents from Atlantic Beach say they don't want the money. They see it as a cheap shot by Myrtle Beach to end the Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bike Fest.

Some taxpayers outside of Atlantic Beach have expressed not wanting to send their tax dollars to a town that has a history of financial problems.

Are our leaders losing it? AB would require $100 million. Now is not the time to save any township except your own!
