A highly contagious virus continues to thread through a Murrells Inlet nursing home. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DEHEC) reports as many as 75 people have displayed symptoms of norovirus at the NHC nursing home in Murrells Inlet.

The virus is a stomach flu and is spread easily in nursing homes. The same virus swept through several cruise ships back in 2004, leaving scores of passengers sick.

This is of particular concern for the elderly -- as they can easily become dehydrated.

As of Thursday, there had been three confirmed cases at the home.

NewsChannel 15 called the nursing home Saturday for more information, but were told to call back Monday.

One Newschannel 15 viewer wrote to us saying they have family at the facility, but have been told no visitors will be allowed until at least next week.
