NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner made in South Carolina is closer to delivery now that the Indian government has accepted compensation for planes that are three years late.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports India's officials signed off on a deal that allows Air India to pick up its South Carolina-made jet.

The state-owned airline ordered 27 of the composite jets in 2005. Three of them sit ready for pickup at the North Charleston plant. One was built there.

Boeing senior vice president Dinesh Keskar says several details still must be worked out, but India's decision to accept the undisclosed proposal was key.

Boeing has promised that the plastic composite jets will provide major fuel savings in addition to passenger comforts.
